Choices

One of the most important endeavors of a coach is to bring awareness of choices to their clients.

Many people, if not most, are wandering through their life unaware of all the choices they have. How many times do you hear yourself or someone else say "I had no choice."

Wrongo.

There are always choices - and lots of them. They may not be the most attractive or ideal choices, but they ARE choices. For instance, you have the choice of living or not. Oh, so you choose to live? Wonderful! Great choice!

Now, let's get on with some other choices. Look around you and take inventory of things (this includes people and events) that aren't optimizing your life. Write down these things that bug you or that are causing you distress. Then take one of the items and brainstorm some choices you might have about it. Include ideal choices and totally illogical, unattractive choices (they're still choices). If you only allow certain choices in this process, you'll stop the creativity, so get wild and crazy here. When you have run out of choices, go back through them. What are the possibilities? Even though some may be totally unacceptable to you, there may be a seed of a possible choice within even the least desirable of them.

Here's a choice: invite a friend to join you in doing this exercise. Make it a party and have a grand time as you brainstorm your choices. The more fun you have, the more creative choices you'll come up with.

What a great word - CHOICE. Besides meaning options and selections, it can also mean the best of the best, as in a great cut of meat (USDA Choice), or a great job (what a choice position!).

How can you choose to make it mean both in your life?
