SOLITUDE

I cannot remember a word so soft
lilies would bend to hear it.
I cannot remember a touch so gentle
stars would leap to feel it.
I cannot remember a single song
that somebody sang to my heart
when I was a child.

Loneliness
cut my breath
into shreds,
threw me to a place so dark
I envied stones for their tears.

Here, while the oceans emptied
and filled again,
while the mountains crumbled
and rose again,
I forgot.

Then, a word, a touch.
A swirl of deepening blue.
The single note of a flute.

And I knew
that I had travelled the road
I was born to travel,
the road into the luminous core
of all loneliness.

Solitude.
Where Soul is singing to your heart.
