Finding Time For the Spirit
by Nancy Orlen Weber
"Infinite intelligence takes the form of a human; a cat; a fly; a horse; a dog..." was written by a direct descendent of Daniel Boone, J. Allen Boone in his book, "Kinship With All Life". His beautifully told essays of the opening of the doors to his higher consciousness linger in my mind decades later. When beginning the layout for this magazine, Kit, a 3 year old feline companion decides it is time to jump on my lap, take my dominant hand and clean it thoroughly.
"Kit, I have to write."
She industriously continues her chores. So do I; at least there is an attempt. The fight ensues. She looks at me adoringly, then places her head on my left hand, stretches out, crunches down, waiting for me to understand.
"You win, I'll stop typing."
Kit nestles in my arms as soon as I lean back. Looks up with more wisdom than I and sends a clear message to take a moment to enjoy the sweet company offered. The paradox of publishing "Conscious Living"(a local magazine) and trying to live consciously was the thought that held my attention until Kit reminded me that a few minutes spent in quiet contentment with a friend can recharge the spirit easily.
We all know, how difficult it can be to make room for the things of the spirit, and yet, without that, life feels less fulfilled. Oh, yes, we can work, and work most of us do at a speed that is daunting to people who are transplants from less hectic areas of the planet. How do we find time for the meaningful relationships that sustain us? How do we set priorities of self care, care of others, work, bills, play time and more? Can we change?
Yes to all the above!
Harry Belafonte said it best when asked how he took over the creation of "Live Aid". At the time it was the largest entertainment project in the world. It took just a few weeks to create and produce. Harry Belafonte had to take over the leadership of it when Harry Chapin, who had been heading it, suddenly died. His response: "If I looked at the big picture, I could never have done it. I simply kept doing one thing at a time, one step at a time and didn't focus on the next step until that one was done."
Simple and beautiful and best of all doable!
When feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, coped out, depressed by how much you haven't done, what needs to be doneāstop and look at what is right before you. Do that, think that, be that. Then, the next thing, think that, do that. Keep on trucking until the path becomes a playful hop scotch of joyful moves into your own life force pulling you into each moment fully open to trusting that your own soul knows exactly what is needed.
Each time I forget to remember, somebody, a person, a cat, a dragonfly comes and beckons me to remember. The time for the spiritual connections is in this moment and the next, and the next.
And now, music is calling my feet to get up and dance! .
